Choosing the perfect engagement ring can be overwhelming. There are so many things to consider before investing in an engagement ring. Such as the style of the ring, the choice of metal, the shape and colour of the stone and of course the ring size.

Here, I share my 5 top tips when buying an engagement ring.

1. The size

I encourage you to visit a jeweller to have your finger sized in person, so you can get an accurate size measurement. If you are buying an engagement ring as a surprise, I recommend that you do a bit of research to find out your partner’s finger size before you purchase a ring.

2. The metal

It is important to choose a durable metal for your ring to guarantee longevity. Gold and platinum are both great options.

3. The stone

Pick a durable stone, suitable for everyday wear, like a diamond, a ruby or a sapphire. If you’re not into traditional white diamond you can opt for a salt & pepper, champagne or cognac diamond.

4. The design

Choose your engagement ring with your wedding ring in mind. If you are planning on wearing both rings together on the same finger, think of them as one piece.

5. Surprise proposal

Propose with a placeholder engagement ring, this will allow you to focus on making the proposal special without having to worry about all the things you should consider before buying an engagement ring.
