Happy Tuesday! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This we Happy Tuesday! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This week I am taking part in the fashion revolution week and I will try answer the questions you may have about my supply chain. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Today, I will be talking about my metals and where they come from... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I use 100% recycled metal, small in carbon footprint, this is a great eco choice, offering a greener alternative to traditionally mined metals. For bespoke orders, I can also re-model a customer's sentimental jewellery into a new and unique creation to give the piece a second life. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Registered with the Fairtrade foundation, I am very proud to be able to empower and support small scale mining communities by offering my designs in Fairtrade gold. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In non-Fairtrade small-scale gold mines, precious metals are extracted using toxic chemicals such as mercury, which is harmful for human health and the environment. They simply can’t afford to use safer processing methods. Problems include birth defects, brain and kidney damage, and water contamination where harmful substances can enter the food chain through poisoned fish. Small-scale gold mining is the largest source of mercury pollution to air and water combined. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Workers in Fairtrade certified gold mines receive a guaranteed Fairtrade Minimum Price for their gold as well as a Premium to spend on improving their businesses or on community projects, such as education, clean water and healthcare. Fairtrade certification means these small scale-miners meet Fairtrade standards. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Buying Fairtrade Gold makes a real difference to the lives of miners, their families, and communities. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For more information on metal, please check out my website. It’s Fashion Revolution week! ✊🏽 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Fashion Revolution Week happens every year in the week surrounding the 24th of April. This date is the anniversary of the 2013 Rana Plaza collapse. Rana Plaza, a building in Bangladesh, housed a number of garment factories, employing around 5,000 people. The people in this building were manufacturing clothing for many of the biggest global fashion brands. Over 1,100 people died in the collapse and another 2,500 were injured, making it the fourth largest industrial disaster in history. The victims were mostly young women. ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Since Fashion Revolution started, people from all over the world have used their voice and their power to tell brands that things must change... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And it’s working! The industry is starting to change. More brands are being open about where their fashion items are made. More manufacturers are making their factories safer. More producers are being seen and heard. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But the story is far from over. We can’t stop until every worker involve in making the clothes and the jewellery we love is seen, heard, paid properly and working in safe conditions. Your voice does make a difference.
